You will notice there is a bar at the bottom of your screen. This is the IM bar. To access it, click 'friends' on the right and it will bring up a list of your friends who are online. You also have the option to appear offline if you do not wish to be contacted....

If you want to apply for access to the 18+ boards, do so here with proof of age.
