| Subject: A Basic Guide For Character Creation Wed Jun 17, 2009 10:03 am | |
| Creating a character can be lots of fun. Although, it can also be rather tricky to get right. Depending on the roleplaying game, it can mean many things. You may have to be an understated character, or maybe even a super-powered god. But, be careful. Many people make the mistake of creating characters that are too powerful and that are virtually immortal. These characters do not make for good RPing and actually put people off. Try to avoid this by creating a nice, balanced character with strengths AND weaknesses. Here is a basic template for you to follow: - Name - Be as creative as you like. People will either be drawn, or have fear struck into their hearts by the name you choose.
- Age - This isn't always needed, but for some RPs it can be important. If it's a romance you wouldn't want a 6 year old dating a 20 year old character would you?
- Occupation - This could be anything you want. (Within the guidelines of the RP, of course.) This will dictate your characters look on certain things. For example, a police officer will frown on certain illegal goings-on (Unless bent), or a bored store clerk will crave excitement.
- Likes - This is the fun bit. Your characters likes define their personality. Go nuts. You can even add your own likes if you wish.
- Dislikes - Also important to define their personality, dislikes can often play an important part. You could even look at other peoples created charactersand base them round those.
- Weapon 1 - Not needed in all RPs, but this is useful in fantasy/sci-fi based RPs and battles.
- Weapon 2 - See above.
- Special abilities - This could be anything, from dancing to magical powers. (Unless stated otherwise.)
- Strengths - Are they best under pressure? Maybe they have special abilities enhanced by elements?
- Weaknesses - Weak to cute kittens? Shoes? Allergies? Maybe even weak to fire?
- Relatives/Friends - If agreed, list any existing characters your character is related to, attached to, or are just friends.
Have fun and don't over do it and follow the rules set by the creator. | |
